3/4 of the Earth's surface is covered in water.
Only 3/100 is fresh water.
But only half of one per cent is available for use worldwide!

Alberta Water Facts

  • Alberta contains 2.2 per cent of Canada's fresh water supply

  • 80 per cent of Alberta's water supply lies in the northern half of the province while 80 per cent of the water demand comes from the southern half.

  • 9.5 billion cubic metres of water were allocated for consumption in 2002.

  • Agriculture and irrigation accounts for 46.6 per cent of the total water consumption in Alberta. Municipalities account for 11 per cent, commercial users account for 6.6 per cent and the oil and gas sector accounts for 4.6 per cent.

  • Two million Albertans get their drinking water from large municipal systems; 400,000 get their water from smaller treatment plants; and 600,000 get their water from private wells, water co-ops or by hauling.

  • Studies show that household water consumption could be reduced by 50 per cent without a significant lifestyle change.

  • A faucet leaking one drop per second can amount to 25 litres per day, or 10,000 litres per year. That is enough to wash more than 65 loads of laundry, have 140 five-minutes showers, or wash 40 cars.

The Value of Water

One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen
or
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

(No kidding, all of the above is true...)
